Minamiyoko (南横市 Minamiyoko-shi ) is a city in Watanabe Prefecture, Nakahara. As of July 2013, the city have population of 173,490 with the land size of 62km², making its density 2789 people/km².
History
Minamiyoko was part of Kashiwadaira Province ruled by Kiijima Clan before it was defeated by Shinozaki Clan later on.
In 1888 Town of Minamiyoko was formed as part of Shinodake District, Watanabe Prefecture after the abolition of Han System. Later in 1926 with the construction of Shizugawa Line, Minamiyoko Station build in the middle of Minamiyoko Town. Minamiyoko later in 1960 elevate its status into city.
In 2006, rejected a proposal merging with the growing neighboring city, Shimazaki.
